Jouer pour la bonne cause – Tryhard for Good

/kappa

Dyrus AMA[reddit]

Hi my name is Dyrus and I hit GM in nearly 2 weeks during the make a wish #tryhardforgood event.
First of all I would like to say that I have been lurking this subreddit for two weeks.
I have played every single blizzard game and am still waiting for them to release warcraft 4 for over 10 years blizzard plz
I want to share my experiences and give back to the HOTS community for being kind to me even though I am a player from another moba. I also understand that there are sick of seeing me on the front page so bare with me for one last time.
It took me countless hours of studing other HOTS streamers, asking for advice from pros and or high elo players and a total of 190 games of sleepless. nights. I have looked up guides from a site called tentonhammer which had a tier list that I kind of followed and a little of hotslogs even though it has so many ads.
You guys don’t need me to reassure you that HOTS is a great game, believe in your pro players and streamers that play this game everyday. I currently enjoy HOTS more then league right now. I would rate it a solid 6.5/10
Shoutout to Chu8 for the great coaching / Team8 for allowing me to learn and participate in one of their scrims/matches and to TheKure for carrying my last two games to GM by shotcalling.
Ask me anything

people in HOTS definitely team fight better then people in league, I’m so sick of losing games because people don’t group or get staggered like it’s bronze overwatch. I would argue that objectives in HOTS are more important to fight for, but it all depends on the timings of both games which leads to team play or split pushing.
It can be hard to carry with bad comps but you can carry yourself up to plat by just soaking properly and fighting at talent powerspikes. Carrying in league is just about outlaning your opponent and trying to get fed by drawing pressure or just getting kills
I am used to playing brusiers so normally warrior fits me the best but I have a ton of fun playing assassins and supports because they are so powerful. It is specific per map for example rag on infernal shrines is fun

Thank you Dyrus, Voyboy, Scarra and Blizzard [reddit]

So I would like to start by stating I am terrible at writing things like this, but I felt like I should. I am a childhood cancer survivor who was granted 2 Wishes through Make a Wish Foundation. Yes, you’re reading that right, I said 2. Apparently, you can get one for each life threatening illness. I was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia when I was 14. I managed to beat the Leukemia through chemotherapy (albeit only temporarily) and got my first wish. About 6 months later, I relapsed (I am guessing here, its been so long now, that its sometimes difficult to remember when a lot of it happened). This time, a bone marrow transplant was my only hope. I ended up getting Graft Versus Host Disease because of having the transplant. The thing that had saved my life, had now put it back at risk. This was when I got the second wish. If you’re curious what the wishes were, the first was to take my family and go to Disney World. The second wish was just for me, and I had a computer built.
I guess my main point I wanted to make here is thank you Blizzard for hosting an amazing event like this, and Dyrus, Voyboy and Scarra for taking part. It puts a huge smile on my face knowing you guys have done this to help other sick children. I know I will remember my wishes for the rest of my life, and this is all thanks to people and companies like you, who donate their time and or money to help make a sick child’s wish come true. It also helps that you guys have brought a lot of good publicity to one of my favourite games, it has been much needed imo.
EDIT: Small over sight on my part. I was diagnosed on June 16th 2002 and had the Transplant on Friday, June 13th 2003. I have had a lot of complications afterwards, but if you go 2 years post transplant without relapsing they consider you cured. Here I am, almost 15 years later.
EDIT2: Apologies to the other regions who also did this that I wasn’t aware of. I never meant to skip people. Thank you to them, and all the high end players who helped teach them the ropes of HoTS. Anyone who is willing to help raise money, or straight up donate time and/or money to the Make a Wish Foundation are amazing people.

Tryhard – For Good! [Blizzard]

The gauntlet has been thrown. We’ve equipped some top-tier Twitch streamers with a coach and challenged them with a simple goal: become the best Heroes of the Storm player they can possibly be, while earning donations for Make-A-Wish® in the process. It’s time to Tryhard – For Good!

How Tryhard for Good Works:

  • Phase One (April 25 – May 1):
    • For the first week of the competition, each of the contenders will be teaming up with the coaches listed below for some hands-on instruction. Here’s where they’ll learn the ins-and-outs of Heroes of the Storm, sharpen their competitive skills, and get their Hero League game faces on!
  • Phase Two (May 2 – 11:59 PM, May 16):
    • The gloves come off! For the next two weeks, each competitor will claw their way to the top of the Hero League solo queue ladder with no more assistance from the coaches. Good luck!
  • Follow Along!
    • Tune in to your favorite streamers’ Twitch channels to learn alongside them during Phase One, and keep up with their progress as they climb the Hero League ladder during Phase Two! Find links to each streamer’s channel in the Competitors and Coaches sections below.
